Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient form of healing – it can be traced back to early Chinese and Egyptian cultures. The purpose of the therapy is to stimulate the body’s own natural ability to heal and rebalance itself.
The feet contain reflex areas which correspond to all the organs and systems in the body. By applying pressure to the feet, we can stimulate these reflex areas and enhance the functioning of the corresponding organs and systems. This is done via the stimulus to the nervous, circulatory and endocrine systems.
Although there are similarities between reflexology and acupressure and acupuncture, reflexology is a distinct therapy and has its own specific theory and manipulation techniques.
Although Reflexology can be used purely for relaxation, it has a valuable role to play in supporting health and well-being. I find that Homeopathy and Reflexology work really well together and will use these therapies in a flexible way to try and meet the healthcare needs of my clients.
Pregnancy Support
From the second trimester onwards, Reflexology can support the well-being of mums-to-be, offering relaxation and relief from postural aches and pains as well as easing digestion, constipation and heartburn. In late pregnancy, babies can often be encouraged into improved birthing positions. I will usually combine Reflexology and Homeopathy to offer optimal support to pregnant women. This can be particularly effective in preparation for childbirth and many women choose to have a combined reflexology and birthing kit consultation in the last few weeks of their pregnancy.
Hormone Imbalance
Reflexology can be helpful in rebalancing the delicate endocrine (hormonal) system when this goes out of balance. Irregular periods, period pain, infertility and hormonal headaches, polycystic ovaries, flushing and cyclical mood swings are signals that the endocrine system requires re-balancing. Regular reflexology treatment can help to restore and maintain the equilibrium of your hormonal system.
