Reflexology is an ancient form of healing – it can be traced back to ancient Chinese and Egyptian cultures. The purpose of the therapy is to stimulate the body’s own natural ability to heal and rebalance itself. The feet contain reflex areas which correspond to all the organs and systems in the body. By applying pressure to the feet, we can stimulate these reflex areas and enhance the functioning of the corresponding organs and systems. This is done via the stimulus to the nervous , circulatory and endocrine systems. Although there are similarities between reflexology, acupressure and acupuncture, reflexology is a distinct therapy and has its own specific theory and manipulation techniques. Reflexology can be used purely for relaxation however it has a valuable role to play in supporting health and wellbeing.
I treat clients with many and varied health problems including ;
From the second trimester onwards, Reflexology can support the wellbeing of mums-to-be, offering relaxation, relief from postural aches and pains, easing digestion, constipation and heartburn. In late pregnancy, babies can often be encouraged into improved birthing positions. I will usually combine Reflexology and Homeopathy to offer optimal support to pregnant women. This can be particularly effective in preparation for childbirth. I find that Homeopathy and Reflexology work really well together and will use these therapies in a flexible way to try and meet the healthcare needs of my clients.
